Bulk carriers loading at Richards Bay Coal Terminal, South Africa

Ports & Trade Corridors

The cheapest route is not always the closest port. We compare the region's corridors on border times, rail capacity, stockpile space and vessel availability.

(01)Corridor planning

Nine gateways, one plan.

Southern Africa's minerals leave through a handful of ports, each linked to the mines by road and rail corridors. Gleatz helps exporters and buyers choose the right one: Maputo and Matola on the Maputo Corridor, Richards Bay and Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, Beira and Nacala in Mozambique, Walvis Bay in Namibia, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Saldanha on the iron ore line and Lobito in Angola.

For every shipment we look at the border crossing, rail capacity, terminal and stockpile space, vessel size and the total landed cost – then we book the route end to end.

Ports & corridors logistics FAQs

Can't find your answer? Call +27 63 960 0523 or message us on WhatsApp.

Which is the best port for exporting minerals from South Africa?
It depends on the commodity, its origin and the vessel size. Richards Bay and Durban suit many bulk and container cargoes, Saldanha serves Northern Cape iron ore, and Maputo is often the shortest route from Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
What is the Maputo Corridor?
The road and rail link between Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo and the ports of Maputo and Matola, via the Lebombo / Ressano Garcia border. It is a key route for chrome, coal and magnetite exports.
Which corridors serve the Copperbelt?
The North–South Corridor to Durban, the Dar es Salaam Corridor through Tanzania, the Walvis Bay Corridor through Namibia, the Beira Corridor and the Lobito Corridor in Angola.
Do you book rail as well as trucks?
Yes. We book road, rail or both, plus the terminal and the vessel.
Can you compare two corridors for my cargo?
Yes. Send the commodity, volume, origin and destination and we will compare the options in our quote.
